Book Presentation: Photography and Tourism, Josep Planas i Montanyà
🗓️ 9 April – 6.30 pm
📍 Agapea Bookshop

This monograph is a reissue bringing together a carefully curated selection of iconic images from the archive of Josep Planas i Montanyà (1924–2016), published to mark the centenary of his birth. The photographs show how Mallorca, Menorca, Ibiza and Formentera evolved from being rural and little-known territories into some of the most legendary tourist destinations in the Mediterranean. Through his work, Planas not only captured the beauty of the landscapes and everyday life, but also helped to shape the islands’ tourist image, which remains relevant to this day.

This new edition includes previously unpublished documentation and photographs, in both black and white and colour, held in the Planas Archive, alongside material from the original volume published in 2005 by Lunwerg, which is now out of print. With its meticulous design and bilingual format (Spanish and English), this reissue is much more than a photobook: it is an invitation to recognise the value of a work that documents a decisive moment in the history of the archipelago and to appreciate the sensitivity of a photographer who knew how to capture, with precision and a unique perspective, the essence of his time.
