Stories of
Marjaleres
Tonina Crespí has been working with the recording of soundscapes, such as the sounds of sieves, and incorporated them into a professional score dedicated to the Marjaleres with the Banda de Música de sa Pobla (Mallorca). She also records the vital sounds of agricultural production, some of which have already disappeared, while others were the most commonly heard during the state of alarm. The sounds of various foods are also included, such as the sound of rice, along with interviews with testimonies like the following: “Rice sings differently when it’s dry.”

The research includes several testimonies from women who share how life used to be in the rural areas, specifically in Sa Pobla and the territory of s'Albufera, which were also lands of Sa Pobla (Mallorca). In these lands of Albufera, rice and old crops such as hemp and flax were harvested.
