Uncovering Archive 2020 - Arte Territorio
Missing Edges
Corentine Le Mestre's proposal “Missing Edges” for the Casa Planas residency focuses on the concept of search, considering the trans-periphery as a notion applicable to images. In photography, this term would translate to the idea of a fluid image that can be traversed, implying that there is a centre to the image, a rootedness, and a territorial interconnection.

During her residency, Corentine seeks to confront the margins and return to the centre. She starts from Casa Planas as the location of the research centre, the physical place of the Planas Archive, and the study of photographic images. From there, she explores the effects of these images on the real environment. She studies the plants that appear on the edges of the postcards in the archive as a central theme. Thus, in her residency search, she approaches a dual reflection on the commerce of images and plants, both synonymous with global circulation. It is an analysis of the construction of identity through the study of plants and their representation within the framework of the tourism industry. We talk with Laura Torres, Gunnar Friel, and Georgi Tomov Georgiev about the importance of the journey, time, and the creation that moves away from the object-oriented need for results, bringing us closer to experience and action as a key tool in art. We discuss artistic practices that highlight this aspect of artistic creation. This activity is free and in collaboration with the Departament de Joventut of the Ajuntament de Palma and the Associació Veïns Es Fortí.
