In 1865, the travel book Die Insel Mallorcawas published, written by the German doctor and zoologist Hermann Alexander Pagenstecher after his visit to Mallorca with German chemist Robert Wilhelm Bunsen. The book describes a pre-tourism island, detailing the daily lives of the islanders, the landscape, fauna, and flora. 

Thanks to the artistic research grant organized by Casa Planas and the Goethe-Institut, "Goethe auf Mallorca," Arantxa Boyero has reinterpreted this travel diary with the aim of reflecting on the romanticization of the island of Mallorca. The project takes the form of a photobook, combining text collages from Die Insel Mallorcawith slides from the Planas Archive.
