The exhibition, curated by Mar\u00eda Sebasti\u00e1n and organised by the FTC\/International Centre of Photography and Casa Planas, forms part of the 4th Photography and Architecture Conference. \u2018The Gaze of (and for) Tourism\u2019 offers a small selection of the materials preserved in the Casa Planas Archive, where photography serves both as a documentary source of touristification and as a subject of study in its own right.<\/p>

The promotional materials created and collected by the photographer Josep Planas i Montany\u00e0 (1924\u20132016) trace the development of leisure architecture from its tentative beginnings in the early 20th century \u2013 with eclectic and often homely establishments \u2013 to the boom in mass tourism, characterised by functionalist \u2018factory hotels\u2019.<\/p>

At the same time, the collection tells us about the company\u2019s organisation and the process of creating images full of vibrant colours that cemented Mallorca\u2019s image as a tourist destination.<\/p>
